Invitation & Conversation

Since it’s almost exclusively Americans that check in here, and since only one of you I’m aware of is actually going to be here, I think I can post the invitation to Molli Malou’s second birthday party for all of you to see without worrying about what to do if all of you were actually here.

So consider yourself invited.

I have lots of great pictures and videos for a post, but I don’t have time to put them up tonight. Expect one in the next couple of days.

In the meantime, some “conversations” with Molli Malou as best as I can remember them. They are typically a blend of English and Danish (fx. “Ikke sorry”), but I’m keeping them in one language so that non-bilinguals can follow. They’re not necessarily funny or special, but they’re some of the first real “substantial” conversations we’ve had.

Also, for what it’s worth, she pronounces “sorry” as “sowwy,” but I spelled the word correctly because if I were really going to get phonetical, I’m not sure you’d be able to follow her side of things at all.

Daddy: [hoisting her into arms] Come on, sweetie, let’s go into the living room.
Molli Malou: No!
Daddy: It wasn’t an option, hon, it was a command.
Molli Malou: [Makes angry face and whacks me in cheek]
Daddy: Don’t you hit me! Now what do you say?!
Molli Malou: Sorry, Daddy.
Daddy: Good girl.
Molli Malou: [Looking slyly away from me] Not sorry…

(The last line was actually “Ikke sorry,” although she does know the word “not.”)

Daddy: Here’s your oatmeal.
Molli Malou: Oatmeal hot.
Daddy: Yes, it’s very hot.
Molli Malou: Not cold.
Daddy: No, that’s right. Not cold.
Molli Malou: Hot, not cold.
Daddy: What a smart girl. Now let’s sit at the table and eat our oatmeal.
Molli Malou: [after a moment’s reflection] Too hot. Too cold. Too much!

Oliver the cat jumps up on the dining room table in the middle of our meal, something he’s never done before. We’re all startled.

Molli Malou: Ollie on table!
Mor: (Danish) Oliver, get down!
Daddy: Down, Ollie!
Molli Malou: (Danish) Ollie, down!
[He leaps to the floor.]
Molli Malou: (Danish) Ollie not on the table.
Mor: (Danish) No, Ollie should not be on the table.
Molli Malou: (Danish) Ollie is naughty!

(The last line was actually, “Ollie er fraek!”)
