FIRST: Maddie is doing very well. She gained weight again today, though we’re not sure how much, and she’s utterly done with the whole jaundice thing. And she’s only eating Mor’s milk, now (though still by means of a tube down her nose).
Ever since Maddie was born and my two weeks of paid paternity leave kicked in, I’ve been promising Molli Malou that we’d take a day off together and go to Tivoli as soon as there was a day without rain in the forecast (and that wasn’t a weekend.)
That day finally arrived today, nine days later.
One sparkling new improvement to Christmas at Tivoli is that they’ve put up a facade around the ugly blue tent in which the elves dwell. Now it looks like a little village.
One sparkling thing remaining unchanged: Uncle Claus’s giant Trojan Reindeer. Molli Malou is so proud that her (great) Uncle Klause made it!
The first ride requested was the airplane ride.
Next, surprisingly, came the bumper cars. I let Molli Malou take the wheel.
Yeah, it was my foot on the pedal and my hand on the wheel, but she had the illusion of total control — and man, did she like it!
Lastly we rode the rope-climbing ride thing. (I’m nowhere near as chunky as I look in this photo. Seriously.)
I asked Molli Malou what she wanted to do next, and she said, “I want to get some candy, and a balloon, and go home.” For what it’s worth, we’d only been at Tivoli, our grand, long-planned trip to Tivoli, for about 45 minutes at this point.
But I couldn’t argue with her, because I wanted it to be her day.
And so it was. Look: she got her candy.
And next thing you know, we’re on the train home.
And speaking of home: look, no boxes!
No, seriously, all clear!
(The box of Christmas stuff not-yet-unloaded to the right of the frame doesn’t count.) Anyway, with Trine home, we’ve been able to resume our Julkalendar rituals, that mean so much to Molli Malou.
And tonight, Trine let ME take the evening shift with Maddie, and wherever Daddy goes, so goes the camera.
No, really, look at that again.
Tomorrow is a busy day for all of us, so probably no update, but we’ve decided we’re going to let Molli Malou actually hold her baby sister over the weekend, so standby for pictures of THAT.
Meanwhile, everything is going well for little Maddie, and it looks like we’re going with Maddie Marie, so if you have any serious objections speak now or forever hold your peace!
Maddie Marie is great. Lovely pictures and I hope to see Tivoli at Christmas someday myself.
