First Date

Molli got set up on her first date this afternoon. Kirsten brought Julius over for lunch. Julius is the boy who was born 9 days before Molli, but at full term. The comparison between them is interesting because you can really see what those seven extra weeks of gestation mean.

So here’s an establishing shot:

Yes, that Julius is a veritable giant beside our little Molli. Molli was very impressed with him, although he didn’t seem anywhere near as interested in her:

Trine just loved the whole Biker Dude with Biker Chick vibe the two were exuding. I think it’s captured best in this third shot, where Julius looks like he’s trying to start a fight with the guy across the bar while Molli looks on coyly:

Also, interesting to see what people have been writing about Molli Malou in the blogosphere now that the Times article has trickled around. One guy in particular bitch-slapped Trine and I as parents for choosing the name, so I bitch-slapped him back (politely) in his comments, and he ended up apologizing. (See the Moron Abroad blog.) Every other blog mention I’ve seen so far has taken our side on the issue, though.

  1. Very Cute. I bet Molli will be a social kid. I think I read a report once that babies that actually paid attention to other babies tended to be more social when they grew up. Babies who only paid attention to their mothers grew up to be shyer or have a major oedipal complex. Whatever.

I have a friend who once quoted another friend as saying, “When I go to the playground with my children it’s as if all the other children are in black and white and mine are in color.” I think this goes for nieces, nephews, and grandchildren as well. It’s as if children within your gene pool have a golden aura about them singling them out as somehow superior to other babies or children. Ever felt that way?

  2. These pictures are just too cute for words. Please send me the whole photos so I can print them. I like the 2nd and 3rd ones best. Just can’t believe how Molli is changing and growing. She is such a beautiful baby!
Now it’s time for me to watch the Red Sox nail the Yanks!
By the way, Julius does look a lot bigger than Molli and she sure is giving him the eye. So cute.
