Class Picture

Here it is, Molli Malou’s first class picture (click on the picture for a bigger, cropped version… and just give a holler if you’d like me to email you the full-size pic):

The girl on the far left (in the pink pants) is Molli’s friend Anna Lina, daughter of Trine’s childhood friend Stinne. The three pedagogs are, left to right, Line, Britte, and Cecilie. I won’t get into the other kids’ names because I only know about half of them. I have no idea what the doll in Molli’s lap is called.

“Skrubtudserne” means “The Toads.” I think I’ve mentioned that before: each “classroom” at Troldehøj has a theme, and this group’s theme is “The Toads.” Meaning there’s a lot of toad-themed stuff in their main room, not least of which is a string of holiday lights with plastic toads over each light.

As long as I’m in here, I may as well add some pictures from the weekend… maybe these’ll help cheer Nana up if she’s got internet access:

The Pigtail Experiment Continued

Molli’s hair really is long enough for pigtails now, but Molli is not very interested in them. It took quite a fight to get them in, and this is the only picture we have to show for it:

…because just seconds later, she liberated her left pigtail:

Giving us possibly the least flattering picture I’ve ever taken of this photogenic beauty:

She then ran into the kitchen, bawling miserably, but making no effort to remove the other pigtail.

In the first of those two pictures, by the way, you’ll notice Molli’s hand clasping the door of the dishwasher. She likes to open the dishwasher when she can (and she can whenever one of her parents hasn’t clicked the door all the way shut), which is bad news. The other day we were in the living room with her. She toddled out of the room, mumbling happily to herself. We let her: the bedroom doors were both closed, so the worst she could do (we thought) was get into the cat food, which would make enough noise to alert us.

A few moments later Molli came wandering out of the kitchen, happily waving a steak knife she’d pulled out of the dishwasher.

We’re getting a whole lot better about clicking that door shut.

Christmas at Tivoli

Saturday evening we went to Tivoli. It was the first time Trine and I had been to “Christmas Tivoli” since the night she told me she was pregnant—I suppose that means it was technically Molli’s second visit, as well as my own.

We have a lot of video from the visit, which is a good thing because the pictures are pretty lousy. Here’s the view from the main entrance, for example:

And here’s the main path leading in from the entrance:

What you don’t see in either of the preceding pictures is the dozens, probably hundreds of little stalls or shacks selling Christmas treats and drinks and ornaments and just about anything else you can think of.

Molli was enchanted by the Hall of the Elves. Here she is staring at the elves in their workshop:

(They’re just old-fashioned dummies with a few moving parts… the great-great-grandparents of animatronix, but she loved them anyway.)

We spent the most time at the “Music Playground,” where there were all kinds of percussion instruments mounted into the ground of a semi-protected little enclave for kids. I’m just going to dump those photos below without further commentary.

A Plea

As soon as justmorons.com goes offline, all of the pictures on this website are going to disappear forever, since they’re all hosted on justmorons. I found a workaround: for about 550 crowns (under $100) I can register a new website (probably “nagan.dk” or something), register it for a year, and transfer all of the files from justmorons.com over to the new site. It’s then about $15-20 per year to maintain, rather than the $275 I’ve been paying for justmorons. Given our current circumstances, we’re taking up a collection… we’ve already got a lot of pledges from Molli’s Danish family and I’m hoping maybe the American side can kick in a little too? (The more people kick in, the lower the amount everyone has to pitch in, and remember we’re talking about a total amount of about $90 here.)

You can pledge now and pay later… but please let me know soon, because justmorons expires on December 2, and I’ll have to move everything before then!

  1. I hope we can share Christmas Tivoli some day. It looks lovely and anywhere that serves Glogg can’t be all bad. And a contribution will arrive from the americas.
