This doesn’t have anything to do with Molli, but because I imagine some day I’ll have this whole blog printed and bound for her (if such technologies still exist in the future!), I thought it might be interesting for her.
Today is the birthday of American President George W. Bush, and he’s in Denmark for a stopover visit on his way to the G-8 summit in Scotland, which begins later this afternoon. (The summit, that is. Scotland began some time ago.) Danish coverage has been non-stop, from the moment the two 747s (Air Force One always travels with a bogey) began their approach to Kastrup airport last evening. The president’s visit is dominating Danish television, radio, and print media. I haven’t been getting out much over the past couple of days, but it’s been a subject of conversation among native Danes and the American expat community for weeks. It’s been very interesting and educational to watch all this from a Danish perspective.
Just a half hour or so ago he held a joint press conference with Anders Fogh Rasmussen outside the official residence of the Danish Prime Minister. Afterwards they took a few questions. The president concluded the conference by saying, “Her majesty’s fixin’ to host a lunch, so we’ve got to get goin’…”
I don’t imagine that’s a phrase that has found much usage historically.
Jeez, we’d never be able to fit all the Secret Service guys in our little apartment. But the president didn’t send Molli so much as a card, so she returned the snub and chose not to send him one this year.
The girls were wondering if George was there to wish Molli a late happy birthday. Sophie was also wondering if he would stop by on her birthday. Wouldn’t it be nice if presidents and foreign dignitaries made personal appearances at everyone’s birthday?
Hej Greg,
I found my password after all this time so can now respond. I wondered what you were hearing about our Prez while he’s there. Now I know. He really could improve his speech pattern.
Too bad New York lost out on the Olympics but I think it’s probably a good thing.
Hej Hej
I did not know Molli could cook and was fixin to have George over for lunch.
