6 Month Checkup and Approaching Midsommer

First there’s a 30MB video you can download by clicking on the image below. There’s great footage of Maddie eating in her chair (as in the photo itself), Molli Malou and Maddie bathing together, Molli Malou catching another butterfly, and Molli Malou getting some help from Morfar to pick the first self-grown strawberry of our family’s life.

Now, while you’re downloading, you can get caught up on the past couple of weeks of June in the life of these girls.

We don’t feed Maddie often in her chair. That’s still the only time I’ve ever done it. I’m not even sure Trine’s tried since. But it was a first, so the pictures stay.

Molli Malou loves schlepping little sister around. (Always followed nervously by a parent ready to assist.)

We set up a playpen around the 6-month birthday of Maddie and were astonished at how clean it made the living room just to have all that baby stuff up off the floor.

The video is better than the photo.

See how this berry tormented us? It demanded to be plucked! What succulence!

Others are standing by…

Why did I take this picture of our rhubarbs? I had a reason. Did someone ask to see a picture of them? I have a vague memory that someone did indeed. So here: our rhubarbs.

Molli Malou standing in front of our potato garden, showing off the strawberry we’d just plucked.

Morfar had just arrived from China that evening, and had brought Molli Malou a present.

Oh, you think she couldn’t get cuter?

That’s my new desktop wallpaper.

Maddie had her 6-month checkup this week and is about 64.5 cm (2’1½”) and 6,1 kg (13.5 lbs). She is actually above the 50th percentile on her size, although I believe we’re measuring on her against her due date, not her actual birth date. But she’s doing very well. She’s eating more and more solid food. She’s still a happy, laughy baby, and has started making eating noises like her big sister did.

She’s getting better at rolling and lying on her stomach she can flip herself onto her back more or less at will. She still can’t roll back-to-stomach without an assist.

We’ve hung heavy window shades in her bedroom in the hopes that she might sleep a little later in the morning. At this point the sun is up when we go to bed and when we wake up… the sky is never really completely dark at all, but sadly the trend will begin its reversal tomorrow. Skt Hans Aften / Midsummer’s Eve is celebrated Tuesday night, but I’m not sure where we’ll go to see the witch burned.

I myself am now officially on the second installment of my paternity leave … I’m off until July 13. So I’m going to pull myself away from the computer and begin enjoying it!

…by trimming some hedges, probably, and mowing the lawn, and prepping some of the paint jobs…
