I just got home from the hospital, where I spent 90 minutes of stupefied bliss mainlining my daily fix of Molli.
Tonight was amazing. No photographs—I’m trying to wean myself off the addiction—but I couldn’t have photographed what was so amazing, anyway. It was just that for entire 100 minutes of my visit with her, 90 minutes of which were spent with her in my arms, she (1) never got hiccups, and (2) never had the usual digestive pulse drop. Not only that, but, most amazingly of all, (3) she sucked on her plastic nipple for about five minutes, working it eagerly in her little mouth, and even getting a little upset and resisting like mad whenever I tried to draw it out (because, very very foolishly, I was afraid she’d somehow suffocate). She’s never taken to the nipple like that before. If we can keep building from here, she may be ready for the real thing not too long from now! (Although surely it will be many weeks before she can sustain herself entirely off Trine—the effort clearly exhausts her.)
It has been, and will continue to be, an extremely busy week: wake up, work at home, go to school, go to Io meetings, come home, 15 minutes for dinner, go to hospital, mainline Molli, come home, decompress, pass out. Trine’s schedule is a little less varied but no less busy for all that: she wakes up, pumps, showers, dresses, and rushes off to make the 9:30 pusling, then spends virtually the entire day at the hospital either mollicoddling or pumping. Vibeke was kind enough to make us a bunch of dinners, which are saving our lives right now. Or at least our sanity. Anyway, it’s saving us a hell of a lot of time.
That’s just a longwinded way of apologizing for the sudden drop-off in Molli postings. It’s just a very rough week. Sorry!
Hi,
Sounds like a perfect visit with Molli and it’s wonderful that she’s figuring out how to suck. It won’t take her long to get to nursing now that she’s figured out the trick.
I understand you’ve been busy and don’t feel you have to keep writing. It’s just nice for us to keep up.
Got Molli’s footprint today – thank you so much. I intend to get a frame for it! Is it big for her age or were you kidding. It’s really hard to judge. . . but it doesn’t look tiny for such a little baby.
Did you get my package? I don’t want to be paranoid but just want to know that it got safely into your hands.
My love to Trine and to Molli.
