Big Bastille Day!

I’m working at home today under DO NOT DISTURB conditions—hoping to complete my final copy/content-edit of RM in one day so that I can do the piecemeal stuff in stolen moments over the weeks ahead—but just got the following SMS from Trine:

Big day! Molli off monitor. Ate entirely off me for breakfast. No ft.

“Off monitor” means Molli is no longer plugged in to the heart, pulse, and oxygen monitor. Instead there’s one simple pad on her abdomen with a lead to a feedback thing that’s displayed outside her blanket. This is an Apnea detector. If she forgets to breathe, it sounds an alarm and someone will hurry over to remind her to breathe. An entire meal off the breast is simply incredible—she did seem eager for the plastic nipple last night, but as far as I know (I’ll have to ask when Trine calls) Molli had never before taken more than a few weak, tentative sucks off the real McCoy before. “No ft” means, as happened last night, Molli never experienced any of those premie pulse drops after her meal. (Which is probably why they finally took her off the monitors.)

Also, while I’m in here: we did get your package yesterday and we love the clothes, mom! She ought to be able to wear them when you’re out here (was that by design?).

General note to all family in every direction: I think Molli has enough clothes to get to the holidays now, thanks to all of your kindness! If you absolutely can’t resist buying her a little outfit, though, she has enough pink! (Says me. Trine might not agree, I don’t know. But my God… even Liberace would be satisfied with the tint of her wardrobe!)

  1. So happy Molli is instrument free and nursing to boot. She’s as healthy as a little colt! This girl has gumption. I think my nickname for her will remain firecracker.

glad the package arrived and, no, I wasn’t thinking about what she could wear when I arrived. Premie size seemed so tiny I was afraid she’d outgrow it before she was off the monitors. The labels all said up to 5 lbs.

But you didn’t even comment on the blanket and cap which I knit with my own little hands! The hat looks a lot like the ones molli has been wearing in the hospital. Would that fit her now or is it too big?

Have a good day and thanks for the update.
    Love,
    Mom
