Food, Hair, and Strollers

It’s a little past eight on Saturday morning. Molli woke us up early. She’s gone back down, at last, and Trine’s sleeping too. I thought I’d steal this moment to get you a little caught up.

The themes of the week were Molli’s teething issues and her cold, which combined to turn our bundle of sunshine into a thundercloud from hell for many hours of every day (and night).

One recommendation for teething babies is to give them cucumber spears. The coolness feels good on their gums, they tend to enjoy the “juice” they suck out, and there’s very little risk of choking.

Molli seemed wary of her first cucumber spear:

But she eventually figured out what to do with it, and actually seemed to enjoy it:

The same pattern manifested itself with frozen bagels, which we’d actually tried before cucumbers. She starts with a momentary inspection of the unfamiliar object:

Then shoves it right in her mouth:

Her hair is coming in like mad, but still photographs strangely whenever I use a flash (and I pretty much always have to use a flash, this being January in Denmark and it being impossible to take shots of her outside, during the 5 hours of daylight we’re allotted each day, without a hat). Here’s a cute shot of here that nevertheless gets her hair all wrong:

And here’s a lousy, blurry, no-flash shot that at least manages to convey a sense of the white-blonde hair that’s suddenly growing so quickly:

Lastly, I had to take some photos to use on my other websites to prove I’m not lying about it being perfectly ordinary to leave your stroller (and baby, if asleep) outside a bar or cafe. Here’s one from my Friday stroll with John, which concluded at a bar right around the corner. Ours are the prams on the right (Molli’s is black, Liam’s is red). That’s john sitting in the bar making faces at Liam:

But strollers don’t always get the respect they deserve. The sign in the photo below says “Only for baby carriages”:

That’s the end of the current batch of photos. (Maybe Molli was feigning the cold just to get a break from all the photos?)

Anyway, the cold does seem to be ebbing, which is a good thing because we have a reservation at 11am today to take her swimming at Frederiksberg Swimhall. There’ll be an instructor on hand, though not exclusively reserved to us, so we may even be able to get guidance on giving her her first actual dunks. Probably won’t be any photos, alas, because of that whole pedophile rule against cameras.

The only other news, which is only news because there’s so little else to write about, is that Molli broke her record and sat upright, unsupported, for 17 seconds yesterday. Her previous record was about 5.

  1. I forgot my password again and it took me a few minutes to figure it out. Anyway, here I am. I loved the photos of Molli, as I always do and think she is definitely showing more interest in the bagel than the cuke – must be those n.y. deli genes! However, the cuke is a great idea and is probably more soothing. But her expressions with both are wonderful.
Her hair is really getting very light, not that it’s surprising given her parents hair color!
That’s great that she can sit on her own for even 17 seconds. Her aunt was 6 months before she could sit up!
Countdown is only four weeks now. I can’t wait.
    All my love and xxxxx

  2. Not 11am. 1pm. It’s a 1pm resrvation at the swimhall. A stupid correction, I know, but I’m all about accuracy.

    (Heh.)
